A Day In the Life of a Conference Call Salesperson
You can imagine we get all sorts of calls coming in here. More of often than not, we get calls from administrative assistants who are setting up conferences for their bosses. They go online and try to find a phone conference call service and end up calling us. Most of the time, conversations go very well and we answer all the questions and explain to folks how things work. But at times, you'll get an inquiry from someone who is rushed and, dare we say, a little confused. Here's an example: One woman called, and looking at the all ads on Google, noticed that you could make toll free conference calls for 3.9¢ per minute. We said that's true. But she wanted professional operator assistance to call out to Africa. We tried to explain that would cost much more because it was an international call and that she wanted an operator to dial it for her. Well, she thought we were selling her a bill of goods and said she would continue her research and hung up on us. At the point, we started placing bets around the office as to how long it would take her to call us back. We knew darn well that 95% of the conference call companies out there don't even provide operator assisted conference calls, but it happens to be one of our specialties. The next day when she called back we recognized her voice and we just couldn't help asking, "Did you do your research?" She had, and was ready to sign up for the service. We can't imagine how many hours she spent trying to find a phone conference call service that offered international operator assistance, let alone for 3.9¢ per minute! The story has a happy ending -- they had their international conference call and it was successful. Moreover, we don't think they'll be hanging up on us anytime soon.
